Pedders 4 Wheel Alignment for Tow Vehicles

Towing Solutions

Towing can dramatically change the ride height of a tow vehicle.  The tow vehicle should be adjusted for normal ride height or correct ride height and levelled as the attitude of the vehicle affects wheel alignment. This of course may be undertaken with the fitment of new springs, airbags, uprated shocks or other like load carrying and towing solution suspension parts. Change in attitude is due to load distribution and ride height at each wheel.  There is no such thing as a 2 wheel alignment in this modern age, all current generation machines are designed to perform a wheel alignment encompassing all four wheels. A wheel alignment and balance should be done with a normal load applied to the tow vehicle, but, unless specified by the manufacturer, not with the driver in the cabin. It is common practice for some of our customers to have a car wheel alignment undertaken on the tow vehicle with an applied load still inside the vehicle – this is common practice for wagons and light commercials and utes.  This helps our wheel alignment technicians to provide our customers with a more accurate wheel alignment.

It’s also very important to have the right Pedders Towing Solution fitted to your tow vehicle to begin with. Always consider the fact that most suspension angles change through normal suspension travel in most vehicle. A wheel alignment specific for towing may need to be changed once your trailer or caravan is removed. Regular towing requires a suitable suspension upgrade. The best place to start with this of course is to contact your local Pedders Suspension outlet.

A correct wheel alignment will:

  • Offer smoother driving on the road
  • Reduce fuel consumption
  • Offer better road holding
  • Offer greater stability in a straight line
  • Offer greater stability during cornering
  • Reduce suspension wear and tear
  • Improve performance
  • Reduce unnecessary road and tyre friction which causes abnormal tyre wear and scuffing

That’s why Pedders needs to be the place you go before you tow.
